How to Download Any YouTube Thumbnail in Every Size

Every YouTube video's thumbnail is publicly accessible in several sizes. Saving one takes seconds once you know where to look, and there are legitimate reasons to do it: backing up your own thumbnails, studying what works in your niche, or collecting references for a designer.

The fast way

Copy the video link from the address bar or the Share button, paste it into the downloader on our homepage, and press Get Thumbnails. The manual way, no tools at all

Thumbnails live at a predictable address. Take the video ID, the part after v= in the URL, and open i.ytimg.com/vi/VIDEO_ID/maxresdefault.jpg in a new tab. Swap maxresdefault for hqdefault or sddefault for the smaller versions. Then right-click and save. This is exactly what our tool automates, along with handling the case where maxresdefault does not exist.

What about 2K and 4K?

YouTube never stores a thumbnail larger than 1280 by 720, so a true 4K original does not exist anywhere. Any site offering one is upscaling. We offer 2K and 4K versions too, labelled as upscaled, for when you need a bigger file and accept the trade-off.

Use what you download responsibly

The image belongs to the channel that uploaded it. Saving your own thumbnails, private reference and fair-use purposes like commentary are fine. Re-uploading someone else's thumbnail as your own is not, and can draw a copyright claim. Our copyright page covers the details.
