This is an estimate, not a prediction. Real earnings move with your audience's country, the season, watch time, ad formats and which advertisers are bidding that week. Two channels with identical view counts can earn very different amounts. Treat the result as a rough range, and use your own YouTube Studio figures for anything that matters.
How the maths works
Ad revenue is simpler than it looks. Advertisers pay a CPM, a price per thousand ads shown. Not every view shows an ad, so the first step is working out how many of your views were monetised playbacks. Those views, divided by a thousand and multiplied by the CPM, give gross revenue. YouTube keeps 45% of that and pays the creator 55%.
The number people quote as "my CPM" is often really their RPM: total earnings per thousand views, after the split and after unmonetised views. RPM is nearly always a fraction of CPM, and it is the honest measure of what a channel earns.
The topic presets above are broad market ranges, not promises. Finance and business content attracts higher bids because a customer is worth more to those advertisers; gaming and entertainment sit lower for the same reason. Your own country mix moves the figure more than almost anything else.
Frequently asked questions
How accurate is this calculator?+
It is arithmetic, not a forecast. Give it a real CPM from your own analytics and the number will be close. Give it a guessed CPM and the answer is only as good as the guess. Nobody, including YouTube, can tell you in advance what a video will earn.
What is the difference between CPM and RPM?+
CPM is what advertisers pay per 1,000 ads shown. RPM is what you actually keep per 1,000 total views, after YouTube's share and after the views that showed no ad. RPM is always lower, and it is the number that reflects your real income.
Why is only part of my views monetised?+
Ads do not run on every playback. Ad blockers, viewers in markets with little advertiser demand, videos marked as made for kids, and limited-ads videos all reduce it. Somewhere between 40% and 70% is common; your Studio analytics shows your real figure.
How much does YouTube keep?+
On long form videos, creators in the Partner Programme receive 55% of the ad revenue their videos generate and YouTube keeps 45%. For Shorts the split works differently, through a pool that first pays music licensing.
Does this include sponsorships or memberships?+
No. This covers ad revenue only. For most established channels, brand deals, memberships and affiliate income together earn more than ads do, and none of that is predictable from view count.
